WINSTON-SALEM, NC : This past Saturday night the 2016 Sportsman season continued at NASCAR’s oldest track, Bowman Gray Stadium. After he drew the fourth starting position in the first 20 lap race on the night, The Midway Mobile Storage Dodge Challenger of Holleman got shuffled back to fifth on the start as he was stuck on the outside. Around the midway point he was able to get under Robbie Brewer and move up to fourth, a spot he held to the finish in a caution free race.
The second race had an inversion of eight drivers, therefore Holleman started the second 20 lap race in fifth. On the initial start, the car in front of him had a mechanical issue and did not take off. Holleman made an evasive move to the inside as the field headed into the first turn for the third spot. There was contact with the two cars on the outside that triggered a first turn accident after they were unaware of being three wide.
Officials determined there would be a complete restart of the race and Holleman lined up fifth again. Once more the car in front of him had a mechanical issue, but this time pulled to the inside out of the way. This moved Holleman up to fourth as the field completed the first lap.
After a few laps, Holleman moved up to the third place and began to chase the leaders down. The race ran green to the finish and Holleman came home with a third place result, which gave him two top fives on the night.
The season continues this Saturday, May 21st with two more 20 lap Sportsman races on the schedule at Bowman Gray Stadium.
He currently sits tied for third in points after three race weekends.
