WINSTON-SALEM, NC (June 30th, 2016) – The 8th event of the 2016 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East season takes place this Saturday at Columbus Motor Speedway in Ohio. This is the final NASCAR event at the track that will be closing its gates for the final time later this season after 71 years of racing. John Holleman enters this weekend’s event with renewed optimism after a successful outing two weeks ago at Stafford Motor Speedway, which saw the 19-year old rookie score his first career K&N Pro Series East pole award.
The Midway Mobile Storage Ford Fusion finished 11th at Stafford Motor Speedway two weeks ago and Holleman currently sits 16th in the overall championship standings halfway through his rookie season.
What does Holleman expect this weekend in his first and only appearance at Columbus Motor Speedway? “A lot of people say it [Columbus Motor Speedway] is a really fast bowl and you never really stop turning. I think that will fit my style pretty well as I am used to short tracks.”
Prior to this week’s event Holleman and driver coach Corey LaJoie have discussed LaJoie’s previous racing experience at the semi-banked fast track.
“We [Corey and I] have talked a lot about it. From what he has told me, it’s not really similar to anything I have raced with in the K&N Series yet. I think we will be alright and we have a good piece for this weekend.”
How does the confidence after the first career pole last time out and a solid run translate into this weekend?
“I think our chances are really good this weekend. We had such a good race at Stafford, especially the qualifying effort last time out, and it would be really cool to go down in history as the last NASCAR winner at Columbus.”
